FILM SCREENING: "CASINO JACK AND THE UNITED STATES OF MONEY ":

"Casino Jack and the United States of Money"(2009) is a film that was written and directed by Oscar winning filmmaker Alex Gibney. Alex Gibney explores the life of Jack Abramoff, also known as "Casino Jack", the disgraced and imprisoned lobbyist. The film traces Abramoff's life from that of a young rising star in the GOP to becoming a key figure in the Bush administration, buying and selling political influence, while pocketing money along the way. His tangled web of scandals included Indian casinos, Chinese sweatshops, Russian spies, and a mob-style killing in Miami.

However, the film is not just about Abramoff and his fall from grace and imprisonment. The film also highlights the problems inherent in the U.S. political system. It shows how the need for politicians to get elected and the millions of dollars it takes to get elected and the system of favor trading inherent to Washington has and continues to erode the basic principles of American democracy.
